The Official STAR TREK Convention Beams Back to Las Vegas July 31 to August 3, 2014 with a Galaxy Full of Stars
Record Breaking Number of 105 Celebrities Making Appearance over four days!
(Las Vegas, NV. . .July 31, 2014) Klingons, Andorians and Vulcans will be joined by humans as fans from around the world beam into Las Vegas on July 31-August 3 for the world's largest Star Trek Convention. This decade long tradition in Las Vegas, is expecting over 15,000 attendees to convene at The Rio Suites Hotel.
This four-day convention will be highlighted by in-person appearances on stage by four Star Trek Captains including; superstar William Shatner (classic Star Trek’s Captain Kirk, Sunday only), Scott Bakula (Star Trek: Enterprise’s Captain Archer, Saturday only), Avery Brooks (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Captain Sisko, Friday only) and Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager’s Captain Janeway, Saturday only).
Other Starfleet worthy celebrities set to appear include: from the latest Star Trek feature film, Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy, Thursday only), Simon Pegg (Montgomery Scott, Saturday only), and Peter Weller (Admiral Marcus, Sunday only); classic Star Trek Walter Koenig (Chekov, Sunday only), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura, Thursday only) and Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand, Friday only); and Harlan Ellison, who was listed in Encyclopedia Britannica as the Science Fiction Grand Master Laureate (and writer of Classic Star Trek’s “The City on the Edge of Forever”, all four days); from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Colm Meaney (Miles O’Brien, Friday only); from Star Trek: Next Generation, Brent Spiner (Data, Thursday only); and many more.
Only in Vegas! This year, fans will be invited to attend a real “Imzadi” Wedding Ceremony with two fans who met at Star Trek registration at the 2012 Las Vegas Convention. Mark Restucci and Amy Cambell will tie the knot on Friday, August 1 at 6:45 p.m. dressed in grand Commander Riker/Counselor Troi wedding attire surrounded by Starfleet and Aliens alike with a monster maroon Honor Guard paving the way. Gary Berman, Creation Entertainment's (the convention promoter) co-CEO said, "That’s what we love about our conventions, it not only brings people together to celebrate something they love but also brings people together to celebrate a personal and unforgettable experience”.
In addition to celebrities, the non-stop theatrical show will include behind-the-scenes presentations, costume and trivia contests, no minimum bid auctions of unique collectibles and one-of-a-kind items, and special fan-made music videos. The exhibit hall will boast major companies and distributors selling and displaying Star Trek and sci-fi collectibles from across the nebula.
NASA joins the Las Vegas Convention for the first time with two special panels. On Friday, “Living in a Crowded Universe” presented by Brian Day, director of Communication and Outreach at the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute, will address the recent finding that we are not the only solar system in the galaxy. Even the moon is showing a new face. There is now direct evidence that the building blocks of life are being made all around us in space and are raining down on us all of the time. On Sunday, the “To Boldly Go” panel presented by John Marmie, Deputy Division Chief for the Programs and Projects Management Division at NASA Ames Research Center, will address NASA’s vision for deep space exploration.
Along with night time Star Trek themed parties, a not-to-be-missed Saturday Night event will be the Salute to the Music of Star Trek, performed by fifty members of the famed Nevada Pops under the direction of Musical Director and Conductor, Richard McGee. The concert will take place Saturday, August 2 at 9:30 PM (a separate ticket required).
A special Cosplay Focus Day is planned for Saturday, with over 2,000 attendees expected to be in full Trek regalia. Emmy Award-winning costume designer Robert Blackman (Star Trek: Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise), Academy Award-winner and nine-time Emmy Award-winner Michael Westmore, the legendary makeup designer and artist (Star Trek: Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise) and Star Trek make-up maestro John Paladin will all be appearing. For the first time Terry Farrell will participate with Michael Westmore in live on-stage demonstration as he transforms her into her character, Dax. Also, on Cosplay Focus Day there will be costume and make-up workshops, Garak’s Tailor and Repair (a free service for all attendee’s costume repairs) and giant meet-ups where maximum size photo ops will be offered (times and group themes will be noted in schedule).
General admission tickets are available in advance (www.creationent.com) or at the door and start at $35 for single day general admission tickets and $149 for general admission weekend tickets. General admission tickets for the Saturday evening concert are $35.
